Virtual Scouting Heritage Merit Badge

What: Scouts earning the Scouting Heritage Merit Badge will learn about the rich history of Scouting from it’s origins at Brownsea Island to its development in America. Participants are asked to learn about the history of Scouting in their community and will give a presentation about their troop, personal background and achievements in Scouts.

Meet your Counselor - Chris Schuler is an Eagle Scout from Long Island, New York. He has served in a variety of leadership roles across the non-profit and higher education landscapes. Among these roles were serving at executive and director levels within the Boy Scouts of America in New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. His experience in higher education includes time in the Office of Biomedical Advancement and undergraduate program management at Brown University. Chris is currently directing the annual giving program at Rhode Island College his alma mater, developing and implementing fundraising and engagement strategies. A passionate volunteer, Chris shares his time with organizations like the Wood Estates Residents Association, American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Boy Scouts of America.

WHO: Open to all Scouts BSA members.

HOW:  The Scouting Heritage Merit Badge will be taught in a virtual classroom. The class has a capacity of 12 Scouts. Small classroom size provides all students with the opportunity to share and interact with the counselors and other Scouts. Scouts should be prepared to be challenged and to join the conversation! Participants who do not engage with the class may not receive credit for the badge.

WHEN: This class will be held virtually over two sessions:

April 11, 2020 2:30PM-4:00PM

April 18, 2020 2:30PM-4:00PM

Scouts must attend both sessions to complete the offered requirements.

After registering, Scouts will receive a link and login information via email. Scouts will also receive instructor details that can be used to connect to the counselor on Scoutbook. This assures that completed requirements are easily recorded.
