Virtual Stamp Collecting Merit Badge
What: The requirements for the Stamp Collecting merit badge help Scouts understand the history, purpose, and meaning of various stamp designs. Scouts learn about different types of stamps, stationary, and marks. They also learn how to handle and preserve stamps.
Meet your Counselor - My name is Jim Plummer and I am your Counselor for this Merit Badge. I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been active in and out of Scouting since I was old enough to be a scout, my scouting experience started in 1970. When I was a scout, I had the positions of Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster I made Eagle Scout in 1977 along with two other scouts.
As an adult I have been an Assistant Scoutmaster, Unit Commissioner and at the present time I am A Pack Committee Chairman and Bear Den Leader and also an Assistant District Commissioner.
I was a stamp collector for many years back to when I was in Scouts. I found it very fascinating and rewarding. I started by collecting stamps for all over the world, and finally just collected stamps from the U.S.A.

WHO: Open to all Scouts BSA members.
HOW: The Stamp Collecting Merit Badge will be taught in a virtual classroom. The class has a capacity of 20 Scouts. Small classroom size provides all students with the opportunity to share and interact with the counselors and other Scouts. Scouts should be prepared to be challenged and to join the conversation! Participants who do not engage with the class may not receive credit for the badge. Scouts must be prompt for all badge sessions. Late participants may not receive credit for all requirements. Scouts must use a device with video to access this class.
Before beginning work on any merit badge, scouts are to have a discussion with their unit leader regarding the specific badge and counselor.
WHEN: This class will be held virtually over three sessions:
May 5, 2020 3:00PM-5:00PM
May 7, 2020 3:00PM-5:00PM
May 9, 2020 3:00PM-5:00PM
Scouts must attend all three sessions to complete the offered requirements.
After registering, Scouts will receive a link and login information via email the day of the scheduled class. Scouts will also receive instructor details that can be used to connect to the counselor on Scoutbook. This assures that completed requirements are easily recorded.
PREREQUISITES: Be a Stamp Collector or know about stamp collecting.
